Screening: The Courtyard of the Ballads

The Courtyard of the Ballads is the first remake in Portuguese cinema and the new version of the film by the same name directed by Ribeirinho in 1942. The original is one of the most iconic comedies of the golden age of Portuguese cinema, and this remake will be followed by two more: O Leão da Estrela, released last Christmas, and A Canção de Lisboa (lit. Lisbon Song),to be released in 2016. The trilogy is entitled “The New Classics” and is being put together by director and producer Leonel Vieira. O Pátio das Cantigas 2015 became the Portuguese film with the highest number of admissions at the Portuguese box office with more than 604,000 spectators. The film shows the lives of a neighbourhood in the Old Lisbon, including their desires, happiness and sadness, always with good humour. The film will be screened in Portuguese with English subtitles and will be introduced by musician Nuno Cristo. FREE ADMISSION
