Camões – Toronto

 

In a region where the presence of the Portuguese community is an unquestionable reality (the largest Portuguese community in Canada) and where a large percentage of students who are studying Portuguese at the York and Toronto universities are mainly luso-descendants, Camões- Toronto could not ignore this fact. Camões-Toronto aims at not only to serve the Portuguese Community and Portuguese Language Teachers but also all who are interested in the Language and in the Portuguese and Lusophone Cultures.

Camões-Toronto offers Portuguese classes to adults from the beginner level (A1) to the advanced level (C2), in a group or individually, Portuguese for specific demands and cultural activities with the objective of promoting the Portuguese Language and Culture. All courses and levels (A1 – C2) are structured according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages (http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/linguistic/cadre_en.asp).

 The activities at Camões – Toronto are quite diverse ranging from Portuguese classes to extracurricular activities, such as lectures and meetings, film showing, seminars, exhibitions or extracurricular courses which are included as a support and dynamization for the promotion of the Portuguese Language and Portuguese and Lusophone Cultures. Camões – Toronto also offers a library of printed, multimedia and audiovisual material.

In addition, Camões- Toronto promotes training and workshops in the areas of instruction and learning of the Portuguese Language and Culture directed to teachers of all educational institutions where the Portuguese Language and Culture are taught.
